Create a unique curve with 3MK

Create a unique curve with 3MK

Hello!
I've started using QTR, with Epson bulk ink, in a 3MK setup using my Epson 1400. So far so good! Reding about QTR, crunching all the info I could get, I think I get the idea how to use it!

I used some of Paul's curves he gave me, and while I am pretty satisfied, I want to get the best result possible. I tried linearizing the original curve, but an error message telling me my curve isnt even enough? Even though the densities were pretty constant decreasing and never flat?

The curve I used had a max curve density on the three channels of about 23-25.

I have bought a matt paper from Tecco, that will do for my personal usage, and have measured the max density I can get (around patch 66, so 21-22). Creating a Dmax of around 1.66.

Since I print from a Mac, using printtool, but find the Windows Gui better when creating a curve, I opened Pauls 3MK Alice curve, assigned the Y and LM to the M curve, and printed the 51 step wedge from Northlight-images, and measued it in i1Profiler with my i1Pro2. I then compared the densities at the different patches, with the ideal densities with the QTR supplied pdf. Creating my curve with 51 points, comparing the earlier points densities, I came up with a pretty even curve. Printed it during the Lunch today, and letting it dry till the evening so see if I am in the correct ballpark.

But, is this the way you all do? Or do you copy an earlier curve and then just linearize it?

I found that the 21 steps wedge is much easier to work with than the 51 steps one. And the resulting curve is just as smooth. Give it a shot.

Perhaps I should have started there.
I have now created what I atleast think is a curve that is good enough.

The stepwedge was printed via print tool, and was in GG2.2 (keith coopers 51 step wedge), and printed with no CM.
What am I supposed to print my circular gradient and my images with now? A GG2.2 image and system managed?
