Epson 9700 support?

Epson 9700 support?

2016-08-09 by mccarvill@...

I don't see the 7700 / 9700 listed on the official QTR support page, but I'm wondering if anyone is using a 7700 / 9700 with QTR. I'm trying to find a used 9800 here in Vancouver but it’s slim pickings and there’s a 9700 available.

Thanks,

Mark

It looks like a non US model number for a 9890 or 9880 so I think you can copy the install script in the 9880 profiles folder and put Quad9700= in front of the install command name so it looks like this: "installQuad9700=Quad9880.command". That should tell it to create the printer as quad9700 and direct it to use the 9880/9890 drivers. Roy might need to chime in if I have some part of that wrong, but that is what is done with the 1430 or 1500 to get it to use the 1400 driver.

Hope that helps,

The 7700 and 9700 are 4 ink printers. They double up on all 4 inks and print with the
same heads as the x900 or x890 printers. My impression is that they are just faster
for less demanding quality output (since no light-inks are used). They also list 1440x1440
as the max resolution.
I've never used one or seen one so details are unknown to me. It's possible that the
x890 driver would be useable -- I guess if you avoid any of the light-ink usage.
All-in-all I doubt you'd be getting what you really want.

Roy

BTW, the install file rename would be: Install9700=9890.command
the letters "Quad" are not included -- they do show up in the printer name.

Roy, thanks for clearing that up. I was answering from the phone and couldn't really see specs for that printer or exactly was the install commands were called.

It looks like the 9700 still uses 10 channels so is it possible to convert to a Piezography systemabd still work as as intended, although with lower overall dpi 1440x1440 rather than 2880x1440. Still, a 9800 or 9880 might be a better bet (and you're still doing better than the 9900 style print head)

I briefly worked with Joe at Bowhaus to set up a doubled-up quad inkset in a Roland. The purpose was to do very fast printing of a large show that used ceiling to floor prints in a large display area. It was all about speed. They looked good. It worked, but is probably not the way to go for most of us.

OK – thanks, folks.

There’s a “low-mileage” one-owner Epson 7600 available that I might buy instead.

9700 works I believe. You just need to use the 9890 ppd/driver.

The install command would be something like: Install9700-K7=9890.command

I love how my message shows up 4 hours after I initially posted it. Any chance of migrating to groups.io ? Especially after the Verizon purchase...

4 ink quad black setup?

2016-08-10 by Mark Savoia

QTR newbie.

Is there someplace that will give me step by step instructions on how to create a curve descriptor file and a ink descriptor file? Seems like all the documentation I am seeing is based on color inks. For Epson 9800, using ink positions 5,6,7,8 (K,C,M,Y) I have made a few attempts and its not working.

Mark, email me and we can work something out. I have templates for k4 profiles, but would need some more info with what inks and measurement devices you're working with.
