Canson Rag Photographique on a 3880

Canson Rag Photographique on a 3880

2017-01-21 by norm@...

Just wondering - has anyone created some curves for the Epson 3880/Canson Rag Photographique combination? Or is there another curve that comes close?

Been using the UCmk-EEnhMatte curves and they are yielding good results but just want to see if I can push the envelope a bit more.

Also going to be working with the Epson Cold Press Natural Fine Art paper - anyone seen any curves for that?

Thanks,

Norm Plummer

Hahnemuhle Photo Rag (HPR). I use this curve on my 3880 (OEM inks) for several smooth matte rag papers, such as CRP and Innova Smooth Cotton. On my printer the stock HPR curve is close to dead linear, almost to the point of not needing relinearisation with my i1. CRP & ISC exhibit virtually exactly the same linearity as HPR using the HPR curve and I could also use it for them unrelinearised if I had to. I use the HPR curve as a generic starting point when I need to create a curve for a new matte paper. I haven't tried CRP using the EEM curve, and while I imagine it wouldn't be too bad, HPR is virtually an exact match on my printer.

Hahnemuhle Photo Rag (HPR) seems to be working well on both Canson Rag Photographique and Canson Printmaking Rag. It also allows me to use the recommended Print Color Management setting of QTR_Gray_Matte_Paper in PrintTool. When using the UCmk-EEnhMatte curves I had to go to the vendor supplied printer curves (cifa_3880…, etc. for Canson) in order to avoid shadows blocking. BTW; I’m using your QTR toning settings for Piezography Special Edition. Things are looking good!

Am going for a tutorial/printing session with piezography at a local print lab here in Chicago. Will be interesting to see how the prints compare.

Thanks for your help,

Norm

Sounds good Norm. You're welcome. It's satisfying when you get everything working the way you want. I'd be interested in a report from the workshop and how you find the print comparison.
