Help with Paul Roark's UT-14 profiles on Mac

2017-05-31 by azcutia@...

Hi,

First of all, excuse me for my (bad) English.

Before jumping seriously to QTR, I'm trying to print with the Epson standard driver using MIS UT-14 inks and Paul Roark's profiles (1400-Profiles.zip). I have got very good results with matte papers using the PS curves (.acv), but not so good with the profiles (.icc). In his paper about UT-14 inkset, Paul wrote:

"Note that the standard matte paper Epson driver settings, as shown above, are assumed with the ICCs and curves in the 1400-Profiles.zip. These including Color Controls” checked with Gamma 2.2. (This varies from the No Color Adjustmentsetting that is used for glossy paper and has often been used with previous inksets. The “NCA” setting with matte papers lacks sufficient steps in the deep shadows.)"

I think the problem is that I cannot set "Color Controls/Gamma 2.2" in the Epson driver because all these controls are deactivated (and remains in the NCA condition) when I must say (in Photoshop CC 2017 for Mac as well as in PrintTool v2) that "Application manages color" to use an icc profile.

My question is:

Is it possible to get better results if I make new icc profiles (I have an Eye-One) with Create ICC-RGB, printing the 21-steps wedge with NCA settings in the driver and embedding the same curves (.acv) contained in 1400-Profiles.zip? Or must I modify the curves also (that's too much for me)? Paul/Roy, what do you think? Has anybody do it?

Many thanks to all of you.

That dates back to the old Windows era when we could use Color Controls and ICCs together. I'm not sure that is possible with any of the modern workflows.

I suspect you'll have to make a new ICCs. If you have the PS curves already, use QTR's Create ICC-RGB to make the ICCs.

Good luck,

Paul

Hi Paul,

The critical question for me (before jump to QTR) is:

To create the new ICCs must I print the 21-steps wedge with NCA settings in the driver and embed the same curves (.acv) contained in 1400-Profiles.zip? Or must I modify the curves also (that's too much for me)?

Thank you,
Jose

In the QTR download "Eye-One" folder you'll find not only the Create ICC-RGB app but also a Readme file that goes over the procedure. See if that answers the question and works for you.
