New QTR Digital Negative System

New QTR Digital Negative System

2017-06-07 by richard@...

I posted this in the "help with rip" thread but I think it is worth posting in its own thread now.

I came up with a complete new QTR digital negative system that does away completely with the need to use the ink descriptor file and the QTR curve creation system as it has been traditionally used.

I came up with a new set of starter curves and a way of increasing the ink load for more highlight blocking density so that it is compatible with a wide range of processes. I also came up with a new system of smoothing and interpolating the measurements from a 21-step target before going through my automatic standalone linearization process. The linearization is done totally separate from any of the QTR tools and it is now possible to preview the curves before exporting and installing the quad file. I also included the output curve points that allow you to map the final curves to something other than a linear lab L. I think it is the easiest and most power set of tools for the Epson UCK3 inks, and believe me, I've tried them all.

Richard,
What printing process is the tool made for and what processes has it been tested on? Silver gelatin?
Cheers,
John

I made it with Platinum/Palladium in mind and am going to be working with the new Lodima on tuesday. I did some salt printing with a similar set up, and it is flexible enough for whatever you throw at it—the limiting factor is going to be the consistency in coating and processing (which is true for whatever negative method used)

Hope that helps,

There is an 11-page PDF that show all the necessary steps. I included a link to the PDF at the bottom of the page here: http://www.bwmastery.com/quadtoneprofiler-digital-negatives/

The purchase comes with 1-year of email support and updates, and I am already working on a couple cool new features for processes that require a LOT more uv blocking...

Hope that helps,
