Hi
Further to my problem with QTR, The Epson 2000P printer and the lack
of curves, I have been experimenting today and I have found that I
can use QTR with my 2000P and get a good print.
I simply treated the image as usual in Photoshop to get the best on
screen representation of the scene, as if editing for a Photoshop
print, then I converted it to greyscale, then I went to Image >
Adjustments > Curves. Then I clicked on the curve line and put the
following values into the Input / Output boxes as follows:
Input 63
Output 128
This gave me a pale image on screen with blown out highlights. I
then saved this curve for future use. Your values may be a bit
different depending on your printer characteristis but it will do as
a trial and you can adjust the Input / Output values to your taste.
I then saved the image. I opened QTR and loaded the image. I chose
the Printer as Epson 2000P, set Printer Model to Quad 2000, chose
Resolution 1440 Super, chose Speed better, and pressed print.
The image produced was free of casts and metamerism, but was not as
fine as an image produced by Photoshop in that the printer dots were
more noticable under a magnifier, were much like the grain one gets
with film and a wet print, but were not visible to the naked eye. It
seems that QTR was only using the black ink.
I am amazed that this simple method was not known by the other group
members. I dont see why this method will not work with other
printers for which profiles are not included in the Rip download.
Best Wishes,
John
