Soft-proofing QTR

I'd like to try soft-roofing some of my images now that I've created the curves for a paper I use. But every time I try to use Data Tool to create the .icc file, I only get a grayscale profile, even though I select the option for a RGB profile. and height Lightroom nor Photoshop allow me to soft proof using a grayscale profile.
Has anyone a solution for this problem (on a Mac, running Sierra)?
