Neutral profile for p600

Neutral profile for p600

2018-11-16 by carlitosvargas2002@...

Hi.
I've been trying to get a neutral QTR profile for a while now. The profiles I made are either warm, or cold, or worse, warm on one side and cold on the other. I already made many versions of the profiles. Is there any way to get a true neutral profile, other than by trial and error? Linearization is not a problem, I can linearize them properly. I'm using Windows10, an Epson SC -p600, John Cone inks, Canon Photo Pro Luster paper and Hahnemühle Fine Art Barita.

Thank you
Carlos Vargas

Dar Carlos. If using cone inks, the best place to ask this is community.inkjetmall.com <http://community.inkjetmall.com/> Not sure what inkset you are using . . . . but Piezo is monochrome so not really able to change its color exactly unless you are using Pro ink.

Best,
Walker

I'm not using Piezo.
I use the same inks as the OEM.
Black, grey and light grey. That's why I was looking for information here.

Carlos,

If you are using ConeColor inks, which seems to be what you are trying to say, the IJM forum that Walker referred you to may still be a good place to pose your question. There may be people here who have made good profiles with them for K3 QTR B&W printing on a P600, or maybe not.

Cheers,
Keith

Carlos

Trying to create a QTR curve with a particular toning for a K3 inkset, including neutral, by changing how much of which colour inks are used is a challenge that only a few people seem to have the skills for, and I'm not one of them. I had a problem with my OEM 3880 in that the QTR neutral curves are not really neutral. They're ever so slightly warm, not objectionably so, but they're not neutral. I "cured" this by linearising the neutral and cool curves and then blending them in QTR roughly 85% neutral and 15% cool. The proportions will depend on the paper.

This is a trial and error process that I simplified a little by using a layered TIFF. You duplicate the image and convert one copy to the warm ICC and one to cool and then back to AdobeRGB and then stack the files in a TIFF and play with the layer transparencies. This assumes that you've created and ICC for the curves as part of linearisation.

That all said, I'm a little surprised that the P600 curves that ship with QTR are not neutral. The P800 curves have a reputation for being so. I wonder whether the P800 curves would work in the P600 give the similarities of the printers.
