Problem Saving profile

2019-05-10 by jon@...

After years of using a 7600 & QTR I have recently upgraded to a 7900. When I tried to create a curve I get an error message and when I try to open a saved curve I get "I/O error 32".

I have never had problems like this before. I have been using QTR for over 10 years.

Anybody know what I need to do or where I need to navigate to?

Jon

I neglected to mention that I am using Windows 7 64bit.

Is your version of QTR up-to-date? There was a bug something like this in W10 that was fixed a while ago.

It is up to date.

The 7600 functions as does the 3880 just not the 7900., perplexing

Whooops, I forgot. The 7900 is a ten ink printer with orange and green, whereas the others are eight ink printers if my memory serves me correctly. This is the one area where Windows has a problem and Mac doesn't. QTRGui was written as a graphical interface to QTR a very long time ago, i.e. before the arrival of ten ink printers, and there's no longer any practical way to update it for printers like the 7900. If you have a .quad file you can print, but you can't create one from scratch. I think that's your problem.

There may be ways to fool it. You could create a curve for a nearly similar eight ink printer (7890?), and then manually edit the resulting quad file to add the green and orange channels (presumably set to zero), and then copy the file to the 7900 quad folder.

This is not my area of expertise. Perhaps someone with more experience with ten ink printers and QTR on Win can confirm or correct what I've said.

This is correct. I have a 7900 and can verify I get the same problems (though I don't really do anything with the QTR curve creation tools since I print with Piezography curves).

QTRGui works just fine for printing with 10-channel printers like the 7900, but the Curve Creation part of QTRGui is NOT functional for 10-channel printers. As Brian says, it was written many years ago and the Curve Creation part is not coded to handle anything over 8-channel printers.

Has anyone figured out how to make curves for a 10 channel printer with QTR for Windows? Is there a compiler that can create a Quad. file from a txt? Or other means of creating an alias making a 7900 recognized as an 8 channel printer?
Any help appreciated,
Jon

With some information from Roy I worked out a usable method for creating curves for Windows QTR and the Epson 7900 (10 Channel). I uploaded the information to the Doc's section.
I hope this works for other users.
