QTR Install Question

QTR Install Question

2019-05-18 by gnickzone@...

Since I sold my 9900 and purchased an Epson SC-P7000 I had not used QTR until yesterday. Or perhaps I should say that I tried to use QTR yesterday, but with no success. Of course at this point I have only the 9900 QTR driver installed, which would not communicate with the printer. I then went to the QTR site and downloaded version 2.7.8, which is apparently geared to the Mac OS Hugh Sierra which I am now running. Thinking that it's probably time to install the latest version, I referred to my notes concerning installing a new version or a reinstall of QTR. Below is the info I'm referring to:

1. Open the QTR driver and delete all QTR Presets.
2. Delete the Quad9900 printer in "Print & Scan".
3. Install QTR from the Install Package. This can be done over the previous version!
4. In "Applications", open the QTR Folder and then the Profiles Folder.
5. Find the SC-P7000 Install Script and run it. This will install the profiles and the printer as well.
6. Do NOT install the printer in "Print & Scan"! Too many settings and opportunities for errors.

When I am anticipating installing a new driver for the Epson my first step is to delete every file referring to the previous driver, including the folder in /Library/Printers. But according to the method mentioned above that is not necessary, as mentioned in Step 3. Although I'm still leaning toward the full deletion of the previous driver, Step 3 seems to negate the necessity of full deleting the previous QTR driver. Is there a current consensus among the forum of best practice?

Thank you,

Gary

That's about it. But I wouldn't go into /Library/Printers and start
deleting files -- you could do damage if you get rid of the wrong files.

Hello Roy,

I appreciate your concern re Library/Printers. However, since there is only one folder there named QTR, unless I'm having a really bad day it would be very unlikely that I would delete the wrong folder. I say this because I always use this procedure before installing a new Epson Driver. Of course all of the other necessary deletions are done as well, and than the Epson folder in Lib/Printers is the last to go. I've followed this method for many years and have never encountered issues due to left-over files from the previous printer driver.

Now back to my original post. I take it then that as long as I finish step # 3 I should be good to go. The last three steps I know from previous experience.

Thanks for the reply Roy,

Gary
