Data Tool does not smooth curve?

Data Tool does not smooth curve?

2019-10-03 by sanking@...

I wonder if anyone, Roy perhaps, might explain why Data Tool does not smooth the curve that is created with the attached profile. I am printing with an Epson P400 and installing with the command InstallP400=R2000.command. I have been using this printer for several months and have created a number of profiles for carbon printing and have had no problem in smoothing the curves with Data Tool. The attached profile, which has density values entered in log density from high to low, installs fine and creates a .quad file with a curve that looks about right, except for some uneveness. However, when I open the .txt file to smooth the curve nothing appear to happen? Data Tool works fine with all of my other .txt files made for this printer.

Are the log density input values too low for Data Tool?

Hi Sandy

The smoothing is done using LAB values rather than density values. I thought
the densities would be changed to Lab but it appears not to be converting.
If you can convert to Lab it should work. I'll take this as a bug fix but I'm out
of town this month so it'll be awhile before I can work on this.

Hi Roy,

Thanks for having a look when you have the time. The curve is not bad as is so I will just smooth the values a bit by hand now as a temporary fix.

BTW, I have used the Data Tool to smooth several other curves that were created via lab density values, and in every case except this one the densities were converted to lab values and then smoothed, exactly as you would expect. The only difference I see between this curve and the others is that the actual density range is very low, less than log 0.90 density. All of the others, where the smoothing works, have a density range that would be more normal, in the log 1.4 - 1.9 range.

Best,

Sandy
