QTR and NK7 ink profiles

2006-01-30 by jefferyball

Hello,
Thanks in advance for any insight you can give! I have a new NK7
inkset with trial Hahnemule papers. The photorag print has nice
deep shadow gradations, but the mid-tones are not at all accurate.
Nozzle check is good and I am using the latest QTR 2.3.5. I went
into the profiles and there is only one profile in either
the "profile" folder or the "quadtone" folder with inkset
information and that is in the "profile" folder for "hahnemule photo
rag." I see no other curve profiles for any other paper. I assume
I selected the "hahnemule photo rag" from the Quadtone folder with
QTR GUI as I selected the 2200 NK7 modeling for printing. After the
print, I realized I needed to check to see what the linearization
curve looks like. The files are there with descriptions, but there
seems to be no data for them. Am I interpreting this correctly that
there may be profile names but no real data and linearization
curves?

My second question is this: I have quadruple checked the loading of
the cartridges and I am a little confused on the QTR Ink pattern
Page print. Ink 1 is black and is the darkest row. Ink 2-3 look
like they proceed to get lighter, but ink 4-yellow-is extemely light
with light black nearly as dark as the ink 2-cyan. Should the ink
pattern print page have subtle gradations from Ink 1-black to ink 8-
light black? Thanks for any help on these two issues.

I will answer my own post. I printed with the one curve
profile "hahnemuhle photo rag 1440" that actually had linearization
and it is the perfect print. Too bad the other profiles don't have
linearizations. I am most happy with this output and plan on using
it exclusively. Just ordered my package of 11x17 Hahnemuhle and all
is well.
