QT RIP with MIS VM inks on Epson 3000: Most bizarre results
2005-04-30 by blueinkdragon
I bought the MIS VM inks for my Epson 3000, downloaded and installed QT RIP 2.2a on my machine running OS X 10.3.8 and was expecting it to work as well as the 1160 VMS inkset I had. But no. All prints have a heavy blue-cast on them. Also, while QT reportedly supports the 3000, there were no curves for it. Figuring that the 1160 was the closet, I snarfed those files and used them as the basis for a set of new files for the 3000. To start, I printed the ink pattern page using the QT Calibration Mode and got most bizarre results. For the black ink, I only get ink on the 90, 95, and 100% patches of the wedge. The 90 patch is about 30% grey, the 95 patch about 60% grey, and the 100 patch solid black. All the other patches of the step wedge are blank. For ink 2 (Cyan), I have the dark grey ink printing an incomplete step wedge too. It starts at about the 40 patch and continues to the darkest at 95. The 100 patch is about the same tone as the 55 patch. Pathes 0-35 are blank. Ink 3 (Magenta). This contains the blue toner. The 1160 files for the MIS VM inks think that the yellow ink contains the toner, so I had to edit this. This prints an almost complete step wedge, starting at patch 5 and continuing to 90. Patches 90 and 100 are blank. However, the maximum density is reached at patches 55-70 (which are all the same) after which density then drops off again. Patch 80 matches patch 35; patch 90 matches patch 20. Ink 4 (Yellow). This is the light grey ink. This is the only normal looking wedge of the whole lot, from no ink in patch 0, through to maximum density in patch 100. Anyone got any clue as to what the hell is going on? I've checked that the inks are installed in the right locations, that there is no clogging, etc. I've emailed both Harrison and InkSupply (who make the MIS VM inks) but I've received either no reply or not very helpful replies. Any ideas as to how to get this working would be most welcome. I've been trying to get this working now for several months. Martin.
