Now that I have customized a curve??

Now that I have customized a curve??

2006-04-26 by Eric Neilsen Photo 2

I have customized a couple of curves to produce prints with a bit less
magenta but they are not showing up in the drop down menu. I am using the
4800 UC K3 inks. I went to the profile folder and they are there. There are
some other files in profile folder as well that may be pointers; some raw
files. How do I get my customized profiles to work?

Eric

You don't state whether you are using the PC or Mac version. I'll guess PC.

The .qidf files are normally placed in (for your printer ink combination)

c:\Program Files\QuadtoneRIP\Profiles\4800-uc

However, the .qidf file is the source, but the "compiled" version is the
.quad file. That must be in the correct location for the curve to be
available for printing.

To compile the your modified curve you must use QTRgui's Curve Creation
window as follows:

1. use File/load to open your modified curve (qidf file)

2. make sure you have the Quad4800 printing model selected

3. Create Curve.

That will transform the curve in to the format (.quad file) needed by the
printing process and save it in the appropriate folder under QuadtoneRIP's
Quadtone folder.

The curve should then be available in QTRgui's curve dropdown box when you
have the 4800 printing model selected.

I have no idea what the raw and amp files are in the 4800 profile folder.
Curious.

How did you create the modified curve in the first place? Did you use the
QTRgui Curve Creator or did you edit the qidf file with a text editor?

Tom, Thanks for checking again. I received a call from a local QTR user that
was able to help. While I don't believe that I tried to add a space or other
invalid character, I guess the program thought that I did. We used a very
short name as a new file name and did a "save as". It worked. I tried
another and it failed, same error. I did a third; it worked. I think I will
work through it. Thanks.

RE: [QuadtoneRIP] Now that I have customized a curve??

2006-04-28 by Eric Neilsen

Well, AS best as I can describe it.

I first tried to just rename it and add my initials to the profile name.
That is when I got the error. Tom Welch called me this morning and talked
me through the process and we tried a simple name, Tom, and it worked.
Profile Tom was available to use in the curve window. I tried a few more,
and got one more bad name, the error message about no spaces, . So I must
have been adding a space. So what I'd advise is to work up a nomenclature
that identifies paper, color or tone and printer if you have more than one.
Or perhaps do a screen capture of the ink limits and density page and print
that out with your very short name on it, i.e. Tom1.

How did you create the modified curve in the first place? Did you use the
QTRgui Curve Creator or did you edit the qidf file with a text editor?
