2400 Curves

2400 Curves

2006-06-24 by Tom Husband

I'm expecting a 2400 any day now and I'd like to create curves for
some of the new papers out there like Innova F-type and Museo Silver
Rag using K-3 ink. Which curve would best to start with? The Epson
Matte or the Ilford Pearl? Or are there other curves available I'm
not aware of?

Thanks,

Tom

Hi Tom,

I think it would make sense to use the Pearl profiles as a starting
point. In fact the only thing I suspect you have to do is re-linearize,
and possibly tweak some ink limits. Look at the neutral-cool
profile in particular, its a nice simple model (no extra curve files).
I should get a shipment of the Silver Rag soon and try it in
various systems.

Based on Roy's post, I just did a test print on Innova F-type Glossy
using 100% Ilford SmPearl Neutral-Cool profile. The out-of-the-box
print is pretty nice and compares well with the QTR-icc profiled ABW
print I made.

However, there is microbanding in the inkseparation print and also in
the black areas of the test print. This was done at 1440 super
better. I'll try 2880.

At 2880 microbanding visible only with loupe, using Ordered dither.
ABW print viewed with loupe shows no banding at Best Photo, High Speed
Off.

I liked the look of the prints i got with QTR on Silver Rag (on the
2400), but I also got microbanding I was never able to get rid of, so I
gave up on it for now unfortuanately (has anyone come up with a nice
QTR Silver Rag profile for the 2400 yet...?)
