Eboni or photo black for UT2

Eboni or photo black for UT2

2006-07-08 by mkitei

Hi,

I'm printing on EPSG using the QTR curve for UT2 inks and Premium
Luster (there is no canned EPSG curve that I'm aware of)My prints are
coming out significantly lighter than the same setup using the Roark
curve. Should I be using Eboni as opposed to Photo Black. Are there
any QTR curves available for EPSG or for the new Innova Fiba Gloss?

Thanks,

Mike Kitei

Mike..

I'm using "ebony" with QTR, and yes there is a curve for PREM LUSTRE which i
am using for both Innova Fibre Gloss and Crane Silver rag..I've also tried
it ith PK black, but I don't notice a significant difference with
either..BTW, I am ALWAYS spraying with Premier Art shield...

Mike and Eddie,

The issue of Eboni ink and photo papers tends to be confusing.
Actually Eboni cannot be used on photo paper at all. To get
around this the Prem Luster profiles were made using NO black
ink. It turns out that the two dark gray inks are sufficient to
produce a decent dMax without a K ink. So when you print with
these profiles it doesn't matter what K ink is loaded -- its not used.
The nice thing is you can leave Eboni in there for printing on
matte paper and not have to switch inks.

There aren't any curves for the new papers -- I FibaGloss, C SilverRag,
and H Pearl, but I imagine the Prem Luster would be a good enough
match, at least to start with.

THX Mike..

WOW!...I guess that's the "reason" my 1280 "black" cart seems to last
forever!..(I'm doing very little "matte" paper lately..)..So as I'm also
using the "Premium Lustre" profiles for KIRKLAND as well as Epson Premium
Lustre and Premium Semigloss as well as for Silver Rag and Fibre Gloss, it
appears that I probably am using NO BLACK at all!........What a
revelation!!!!

Roy (or anyone who can help),

You mention there are Premiun Lustre profiles, but I can't find them.
I am using an Epson 4000 with the UC inkset and would love to have a
profile for Premium Lustre. I am assuming that by profile, you are
talking about what is in the Curves dropdown box?

Sorry about my ignorance, but I am new to using QTR.

Thanks,
Sheila

Re: [QuadtoneRIP] Re: Eboni or photo black for UT2

Hi Sheila,

There are two sets of curves/profiles that will probably work pretty
well with
Premium Luster. Try the ISmoothPearl curves or the EPremSMatte ones.
Note that the EPremSMatte should be used at 2880dpi whereas the others
at 1440.
