Quad Tone Rip Front End...I/O Error 32

Quad Tone Rip Front End...I/O Error 32

2005-05-13 by pres22ton

I have an Epson R300 printer...I have tried to print photos but have
had nothing but trouble from the very beginning. First the photos were
blurred and nothing would make them clear...clean heads etc...the Epson
PhotoStater 3.0 program prints clear photos. I have spent hours witout
success.

Without doing anything but rebooting my computer, now if I try to print
I now get.... Quad Tone Rip Front End
                   I/O Error 32..

Nothing will get rid of it....

Does anyone have a solution to my problems? I have had 3 different
kinds of printers and different photo printing
programs...Epson...Canon..etc which are just plug in and use and get
good and consistent photos from the first try...Has anyone else had my
experienc or am I just a QuadTone dummy?

The R300 doesn't look like it is on the list of
supported printers...

The R300 is listed in all the ink sales and with the soft ware
download....when I first installed it printed about 3 pictures and since then it went to
hell...all I get is the I/O Error 32 screen...

Take a look at the lights on your printer. Are they blinking?

The error you are getting indicates a problem with the printer.

Stephen,

I'm using v2.3 today after making some changes to my anti-virus and
firewall and I'm getting the I/O error described: the printer lights
are all normal, but printing stopped in the middle of a stepscale
after printing 3 others properly (*with* the I/O error popping up for
them, too).

Yesterday, I printed 2 full 13x19 sheets with no problems, no error
messages. Where might I look for the solution?

I/O error 32 says that the printer is reporting it is not ready.

If the printer is really ready, then there is some interaction problem. I would
suggest obtaining the latest drivers for your printer and see if that makes a
difference.

Re: Quad Tone Rip Front End...I/O Error 32

2005-07-28 by Frank Kolwicz

I don't get the error when printing from Photoshop or from my word
processor; I didn't get it with QTR 2.2d, only from QTR 2.3. Makes me think
the interaction problem is on the QTR side.

I was able to print a large image with no problems yesterday, even though I
got the I/O error message, so it seems to be an annoyance, only.

Could be, but there have been no changes in the RawPrint, the printer handler,
in version 2.3. There would have to be some data dependent problem. Just for
your information, QTR prints to the printer in "Raw" mode. Photoshop does not
use that path.

2005-07-30 by Tony Bonanno

Hmmm, this is a little bizzare. I'm using QTR 2.2.4 and had not
noticed any problem. Tonight I find that every print gives me the I/O
32 error message, but the printing works without interruption and they
look okay. The only thing I can think of that I've done recently is
upgrade the firmware on my Epson PRO 4000 printer. Are those having
the problem also using the 4000 ?? Did you also upgrade your firmware
in the last week or so ??? It's a longshot I suppose, but can't
think of anything else that's changed.

One other question:

Are you using the Windows spooler or printing directly to the printer? If it is
the spooler, do you have it set up to start printing immediately or to wait
until the whole file is spooled? If the former, try changing it to wait for the
whole file to be spooled.

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for the tip. I tried it, but still getting the error. I'll
reinstall QTR next (probably should have tried that before posting).

RE: [QuadtoneRIP] Re: Quad Tone Rip Front End...I/O Error 32

2005-07-30 by Stephen Billard

OK. The next thing to check is the free disk space where your printer files are
spooled. If QTR is getting I/O error 32 and you are spooling the file before
printing, then the error has nothing to do with the printer. QTR is done before
the printing starts. Maybe you are short on disk space.

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for the tip. I tried it, but still getting the error. I'll
reinstall QTR next (probably should have tried that before posting).

Re: Quad Tone Rip Front End...I/O Error 32

2005-07-30 by Tony Bonanno

Thanks Steve for the suggestion. Plenty of disk space though
(gigabytes of it). Since my last post, I've uninstalled QTR, cleaned
out all registry references, disabled all programs running in
background, re-installed in new, clean directory, etc. Still getting
error ???? Very weird. No errors when printing to 4000 from Epson
driver, CS2, etc. Message is in box saying Quad Tone RIP Front End ????

Weird huh...

Just tried sending file to R800 from QTR. Still got I/O Error 32
message, so I guess the 4000 firmware update can be ruled out.

Tony,

I'm getting the message with a 2200, didn't change anything and didn't get
the I/O error until I changed to QTR v2.3. I haven't tried it with my 1160,
yet.

Frank

____________________________________________________
Hmmm, this is a little bizzare. I'm using QTR 2.2.4 and had not
noticed any problem. Tonight I find that every print gives me the I/O
32 error message, but the printing works without interruption and they
look okay. The only thing I can think of that I've done recently is
upgrade the firmware on my Epson PRO 4000 printer. Are those having
the problem also using the 4000 ?? Did you also upgrade your firmware
in the last week or so ??? It's a longshot I suppose, but can't
think of anything else that's changed.

Stephen,

I use spooled printing. My partition with the least space has 1.7 Gig. I
*have* removed one hard drive (not Raided, for image files only) in
anticipation of a new computer, as of tomorrow, but the the other two are
working fine with all my basic applications and files. We'll see if the
error message persists when I get the new machine running with all my
equipment and files installed.

One other question:

Are you using the Windows spooler or printing directly to the printer? If it
is
the spooler, do you have it set up to start printing immediately or to wait
until the whole file is spooled? If the former, try changing it to wait for
the
whole file to be spooled.

Hi Stephen, Frank,

Have continued to try to troubleshoot this I/O Error 32 this morning.
Deleted ALL temp files, cleaned out registry again, checked all
drives and disk space, disabled all background apps again,
re-installed (2.3), etc. Tried different spooled settings, direct
print setting in Windows print properties, etc.

Still getting the error message. Sure has me baffled and its now more
annoying than ever :-). Only thing I haven't done is uninstall QTR
and try a really old early version.

Cheers,

Tony

Doesn't appear to be Stephen. I have been using two different images
on two different printers (R800 and PRO 4000). Both have been TIFF
files. Have printed them both many times previously without a
problem. Will try another image from a different camera, etc. just to
see what happens.
