Help with QTR softproofing in PS CS2
2006-10-07 by Jean-Marc Humbert
My configuration is: - Epson 4000 - PS CS2 with Windows X64 - QTR - Monitor callibrated with Eye-One Display 2 My settings in PS: - Color Settings : Gray: Gray Gamma 2.2 (as recommended by Roy) - B&W photos from Nikon 4000 LS scanner with no embeded profile, no color management when asked when opening document (if I understand correctly correctly PS color management, it means that my workspace is Gray Gamma 2.2) - Softproofing : I choose between "QRR - Gray Matte Paper" or "QTR - Gray Photo Paper" as listed in the "Device to Simulate" folder (Preserve Numbers unchecked). Question and issues: - whatever the softproofing option I choose, there is no difference on the picture I have on the screen. - I must miss something since when I change the PS color settings between Gray Gamma 2.2 and either QRR - Gray Matte Paper or QTR - Gray Photo Paper the picture changes (with QTR - Gray Photo Paper selected in the Color Settings, the blacks are more blocked than with QTR - Gray Matte Paper). - Logically, with a work space set as Gray Gamma 2.2, I should see a difference with softproofing on with QTR - Gray Photo Paper or QTR - Gray Matte Paper. Would be the solution then to choose in color settings either QTR - Gray Photo Paper or QTR - Gray Matte Paper and do not care about softproofing? Please help me and advise, I must be wrong somewhere. Jean-Marc Humbert Paris, France
