dmax question
2006-10-10 by Matti Koskinen
hi all, I got my epson r1800 week ago. Immediately I tried qtr, but wasn't satisfied with the result. It showed bad posterisation and some banding. So i tried to get the epson driver to produce decent b&w prints, but got nowhere. Best prints come with a slight toning to mask the different colour casts. Then i decided to give qtr another try. Setting dpi to 2880 and quality from faster to better removed the posterisations and setting dithering to adaptive hybrid removed the banding, so qtr works. I've printed on heavyweight matte using enhanced matte curves and like the results, except... Now my question. I've read the manual but not yet quite understand how to improve the UC_EEnh curves to get better dmax. I printed a calibration chart on epson heavyweight matte, and it looks like the ink limit is higher than the 65 with eenh. So, how to tweak the existing curve for better dmax? There's settings like ink limit slider and black boost, but i have not yet digested all what would improve dmax. thanks -matti
