Ink Separation Test page Help

Ink Separation Test page Help

2006-12-05 by jwhorfin88

Hi,
I'm using an Epson 2200 with the NK7 inks from John Cone on Hahn. Photo Rag 308.

From a discussion on the Piezography forum, and with the folks from Inkjetmall, it seems
I'm laying down too much ink and the Hahn. Paper ripples.

If I set the ink limit slider to -50% the ripples dissapear (the print, however, looks terrible).
If I set it to -25% they reappear.

I'd like to create a new curve/profile for my printer but I had a question. I've printed the
ink separation test page and am trying to find the patches where the inks max out but the
black ink will max out at about 40 - 45%. Everything else at around 80 - 85%. Is this
normal? Should I just set the limit to 80% and ignore the black ink?

Thanks for the help.

John

My computer:
Mac 2GHz. DP G5
- OS 10.4.8
- 2 GB RAM
- Photoshop CS

Go with the 40-45% and rerun the separation image using the lower ink
limit. Measure the dMax of the lighter inks and proceed as usual.

Thanks! I'll give that a try.

I am assuming that you are using the QTR Tools|Options|Calibration
Mode to print out the test image at 100% and then at the lower ink
level(your 40-45%). Are you visually matching the patches or are you
using a densitometer/colorimeter/spectrometer or scanner?

Yes. I print the test image in calibration mode at 100%. I'm using a densitometer to measure
patches. I'm following instructions contained in the QTR User Guide.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
