QTR & 2400 manual rear sheet feed problem mystery

QTR & 2400 manual rear sheet feed problem mystery

2007-01-17 by Gary Benson

Roy,

I decided to trying printing several differently sized test images
using QTR and the manual rear (roll) sheet feed. Up to this point, I
had been trying to print only two images, both of which were landscape
orientation and approx. 6x9 inches (actually, just over 9 inches wide)
all on Letter sized paper.

On my system, for whatever reason, if the image is greater than 9
inches wide I have the problem with it not being positioned correctly
and starts printing on the leading edge (right edge! ;-0) of the paper
(ie. not centered). It seems that if the image is less than 9 inches
wide, it is correctly centered and printed....at least, for all the
test prints I've made so far. So for me...this is GREAT news! I can
print using QTR and my 2400 and just keep my images for prints on
letter sized paper less than 9 in wide....easy to do, since I like a
goodly amount of white space around the image in most cases anyways.

Tomorrow evening I'm going to try making some prints on larger size
paper using the rear sheet feed and see how that works out.

I'd be curious to know if you or anyone else finds this anomaly to be
the case on their systems.

R1800 manual roll (rear) feed issue - similar to 2400

2007-02-12 by mattchapin2

I am also having difficulty with centering!

I am using QTR 2.5 which I installed after uninstalling the prior
version completely (and deleting the QuadtoneRIP directory).

I just upgraded to the R1800 from the R800 and am having a different
experience printing from the R1800 rear manual feed (roll paper)
slot.

I have a photo that is 6.67 by 10 inches (portrait orientation),
which I am printing on letter sized paper in QTR.

I've tried a number of ways to modify the file in Photoshop and
print it in QTR using the manual roll (rear) input.

Printing at 100% in QTR - Perfectly centered.

Printing at 90% (to get 6x9 size) - Not centered. Prints off the top
edge.

Resized to 6x9 in Photoshop, printed at 100% - Not centered. prints
off top edge.

Resized to 6x9 in Photoshop, with white border added to make it 7x10
inches, and printed at 100% - Not centered. prints off top edge.

Resized to 6x9 in Photoshop, with white border added to make it 7x10
inches, and then a black 4-pixel frame around the edge of the 7x10
image, all that printed at 100% - Perfectly centered.

I don't know if this is reapeatable - need to get some cheaper paper
before I do any more experimenting! But thought I'd post in case
this information sheds some light on the centering problem from the
rear manual feed slot.

Roy, thanks for all your hard work on QTR - it produces amazing B+W
prints!

Hi,

same problem here: R2400, rear manual feed, QTR 2.5 Mac 10.4.8,
Photoshop CS 2, centered print. The strange thing is: it *only* occurs
when I select 1440 dpi. When I use 2880 dpi the prints are centered as
they should be. Well almost: There is a 3 mm offset which comes from
the printer margins, but this is something I can correct in
Photoshop's printing dialog.

Bye, Rainer.
