Using Black Boost

Using Black Boost

2007-02-14 by david627890

Hello, apologies if this message comes through twice, I attempted to
post it yesterday afternoon but there is no sign of it yet!

I have just started making QTR curves/profiles for my various
printers. To start I have made curves for my R220 using the UT-R2
warm/neutral inksets. I intend to go on to making curves for my 1270
using the Cone K6 inksets (Cone don't support this printer).

So far everything looks fine, however I haven't used Black Boost. I
cannot seem to find any mention of its use in the various notes that I
have read on using QTR. Can someone educate me and tell me when, and
how, to use this feature please?

David

You must be on a Mac. The QTRgui has 1 reference and the User Guide has 6
references to black boost. Basically black boost allows you to run the black
ink up in the deepest shadows up to the black boost limit.

Black boost helps maximize dMax of your black ink. It raises just
the black ink limit over the default ink limit up to the black boost
value. This is often desirable because the default ink limit is
typically set a little below the dMax of the black ink if you follow
the work flow in Tom Moore's Users Guide.

Check out the effect by opening a profile in Curve Creator, set a
black boost value, click Create Curve, and observing the effect on
the ink curves graph.
