Moderation help needed

Moderation help needed

2007-02-25 by Tom Moore

I'm looking for some help moderating the list. This not a big task and
does not take much time. The reason I need help is that I'm not always
available to deal with messages requiring moderation when I'm away.
Then they can languish in the moderation queue for 24 hours or even
days. That's not very welcoming to new members - the ones being moderated.

The reason new members are moderated is to gives some assurance they
are not spammers trying to join the list. After a few legitimate
messages over a week or so, the new members are taken off moderate
status (by me). This has proven to be the only effective way to keep
spammers off the list. Since we started this scheme, the list has been
completely free of spam.

So to repeat - I'm looking for a couple of volunteers to help with
moderation - specifically reviewing and approving messages from new
members under moderation. I'm NOT looking for people to put out flame
wars (we don't seem to have those), deal with banning members or any
of the other less pleasant tasks. The task takes a couple of minutes a
day (seriously) and it can be done with your email client or a web
browser.

If you're interested in helping out contact me off list at the email
address above. If you've benefited from Roy's work and this list, then
this is a small way of giving something back to the community.

Ok Tom, put me on the moderator list. Provided you remove me when
requested.

Keep up the good work,
Gerrit Bosch.
