Personally I would try the following, if you are absolutely sure your
nozzle checks are 100% (critical), and you have gently shaken the
carts very well (also important), let them sit overnight and then
printed out a purge target to move some of that ink out of the lines
and move new ink into the heads. It sounds suspiciously to me like
ink pigments seperating. This is however uncommon with my experience
with K6 so far. But then I do shake my carts about once every 2 weeks
as a precaution with all my printers.
At that point or even before doing that I would take a greyscale and
print it out of the standard Epson driver while assigning rgb space
to that file. In other words by pass QTR all together and print out
the grey inks as if they Epson driver thinks it is rgb ink, you could
use any color matte profile. Then look to see if you still see this
same posterization. If so it most likely has nothing to do with QTR .
Then you can start really dealing with the inks themselves. Like I
said before I'm using the same set up as you with 100% perfect
results. Like you mentioned, the fist batch we had was mislabeled and
I sent them back (last year).
