Problem with System Icons on 2.5.1.2

2007-04-11 by e.myrv

Hi,

I have recently upgraded QTR and to version 2.5.1.2 of QTRGui and I am
impressed with all the improvements. But one thing doesn't work on my
system (Win XP SP2; Epson 2200): The four "system icons" in the upper
right corner of the interface don't do anything. I cannot close the
program, minimize, or rollup, etc., from these buttons. When I click on
any one of the four, nothing happens. The only way I can close the
program is from the File menu. Fortunately, everything else works just
fine, so this is at best an inconvenience. Curiously, if I load some of
the different skins (I regularly use the default), the buttons respond
(i.e., change color) when the mouse cursor passes over them, but still
don't do anything when I click.

Is there a way I can get these to work?

This is an interesting problem. There is an icon on the left-hand side of the
title bar. Does that do anything? I've not heard of this problem before. The
handling of these icons is all part of the application environment runtime so I
don't have any control over the behavior (other than making the icons present or
absent.)

I've just updated to 2.5.1.5 and the behavior is just the same.
Nothing on the title bar responds to a mouse click, but all buttons
(including the one to the left of the title) respond (color change)
when the mouse cursor rolls over them. What is the button to the
left
of the title supposed to do?

This does seem like a strange bug in the applic. env. runtime; all
menus and dropdowns everywhere else work fine. This didn't happen
with my previous version of QTRGui (I think it was 2.4.something),
which didn't have any buttons except for the traditional minimize
and
close.

As I said before, this is an inconvenience rather than a major
issue,
since all else works fine. The improvements (such as three curves,
with Split Tone Curve Blending, etc.) are great.

So far, you are the only one reporting this issue. I really don't know why the
Icons wouldn't work.

Re: Problem with System Icons on 2.5.1.2

Well, I have finally solved the problem (sort of), so just in case
anybody else encounters it, here is the fix.

I now have installed 2.5.1.8, and the same problem occurred as in my
original post: the four little system icons didn't work. I have lived
with that, since I could exit via the file menu.

So recently I decided to reinstall and see what would happen. Still
broken, but my preferences (curve blending, etc.) were intact. So I
wne looking for preference files, and finally found the file
"QTRgui.ini" in C:\Documents and Settings\...\Application
Data\QuadToneRIP. So I moved that file to a different location as a
backup and then reinstalled 2.5.1.8 again. As expected, my
preferences were gone, but (Halleluya!!!) the system icons now worked.

So next, I carefully edited the new QTRgui.ini (in NotePad) to add in
only those lines that clearly specified my preferences. This worked,
and I now have my preferences back, too.

Clearly something in the ".ini" file was screwing up the gui, but I
can't tell exactly what. But in general, backing up and moving an
".ini" file before reinstalling is a good thing to try if you have
weird behavior. I should have tried this earlier, but I had forgotten
similar occurrences with other software in the past.

So now I am once again a completely happy camper with QuadToneRIP
(which is printing away even as I write this.)

If you still have the bad INI file I sure would like to look at it.

I've been having the same problem. I also cannot drag the program by the
top bar as you normally can with Windows programs. I also cannot close
the show graph display (right-click' on Curve 1/Curve 2 etc.) - the only
way to close it (and the whole program is File->Exit)

My QTRGui.ini file is pasted below.

The thing that looks unusual here is the FormTop and FormLeft. I can't
imagin why they would be negative. It also looks like you have a dual
monitor? Try deleting those lines and see what happens.

Yes I do have a dual monitor set up. Primary monitor on the right with a
resolution of 2048x1536 and secondary monitor on the left with a
resolution of 1280x1024.

I deleted those two lines and that did allow the icons to work. The ini
file recreated the lines as
FormTop= 58
FormLeft= -560
which positioned the window flush agaist the r/hand edge of the
secondary window about halfway down.

However the curve display window could still not be closed by clicking
the red X. The curve display defaults to opening in the top left hand
corner of the secondary monitor.

If I then move the program rightwards on to my primary monitor all is
well. However if I move the program further to the left on the secondary
monitor Formtop becomes negative and then the icons stop working.

Maybe I'm a bit unusual having the secondary monitor on the left? It's
not a big deal for me which is why I didn't mention it until I saw the OP.

Howard

RE: [QuadtoneRIP] Re: Problem with System Icons on 2.5.1.2

I don't have dual monitors, so this is something I can't check out. At any
rate, these icons are part of the support package I am using. I will forward
this observation to the developer in the hope he can figure out what is
wrong. At least we know the circumstances now.

Yes I do have a dual monitor set up. Primary monitor on the right with a
resolution of 2048x1536 and secondary monitor on the left with a resolution
of 1280x1024.

I deleted those two lines and that did allow the icons to work. The ini file
recreated the lines as FormTop= 58 FormLeft= -560 which positioned the
window flush agaist the r/hand edge of the secondary window about halfway
down.

However the curve display window could still not be closed by clicking the
red X. The curve display defaults to opening in the top left hand corner of
the secondary monitor.

If I then move the program rightwards on to my primary monitor all is well.
However if I move the program further to the left on the secondary monitor
Formtop becomes negative and then the icons stop working.

Maybe I'm a bit unusual having the secondary monitor on the left? It's not a
big deal for me which is why I didn't mention it until I saw the OP.

Howard
