QTR+UT7 Inks+2200 - Am I Stupid or What?

QTR+UT7 Inks+2200 - Am I Stupid or What?

2005-07-05 by SteveZ

I've been testing QTR with UT7 inks using step wedges for EEM (using
the 21 step wedge for gray matte) and I find that all my tones look
the same.

Am I not using the curves properly in the QTR Gui?

For instance, in the drop down curve box, I have "UT7-2200 EEM-Cool-1"
on the left side and "UT7-2200 EEM-Cool-1" on the right side or "UT7-
2200 EEM-Neutral-1" on the left side and "UT7-2200 EEM-Neutral-1" on
the right side. But all the tones look the same, unlike when I use UC
inks and the UC Curves where there is distinct noticeable difference
in tones from cool to warm.

I must be doing something wrong, but what?

Can anyone help here?

Steve,
you need to put different curves on the right and left and then adjust the slider to reflect the tones you need.

Steve

What is the source of the curves you are using? The names (although they
seem to be applicable) don't match the 2200 UT7 curves I received in my
distribution of QTR. Since you're using QTRgui, I presume you are using a
PC.

Yes, Tom, I am using a PC with a Windows XP platform. Daniel Staver
was kind enough to share some of his curves for UT7 inks for QTR.

I know, Tom, I've tried that too i.e. UT7 EEM Cool/U77 EEM Warm -
slider at 100% or 100% warm...I get the same tone...a very neutral
tone.

Steve

The names of the curves you said you were using (e.g. UT7-2200 EEM-Cool-1)
don't correspond to the ones in Daniel's zip file. Have you renamed them?

Sorry to ask what may be dumb questions, but it should work. I'm trying to
make sure you're actually using the curves you think you are.

Tom, for EEM paper, I have UT7-EEM-cool UT7-EEM-warm ET7 EEM Carbon
and ET7 sepia...are these not correct? I also have one called:
UT-MK Cool and UT-MK Warm but I don't know where I got them from.
Are they also Daniel's?

RE: [QuadtoneRIP] Re: QTR+UT7 Inks+2200 - Am I Stupid or What?

That file contains the following curves:

UT7-EEnhMatte-carbon.qidf
UT7-EEnhMatte-carbon.quad
UT7-EEnhMatte-cool.qidf
UT7-EEnhMatte-cool.quad
UT7-EEnhMatte-sepia.qidf
UT7-EEnhMatte-sepia.quad
UT7-EPSG-cool-PKN-GLOP.qidf
UT7-EPSG-cool-PKN-GLOP.quad
UT7-EPSG-cool-PKN.qidf
UT7-EPSG-cool-PKN.quad
UT7-EPSG-neutral-PKN-GLOP.qidf
UT7-EPSG-neutral-PKN-GLOP.quad
UT7-EPSG-neutral-PKN.qidf
UT7-EPSG-neutral-PKN.quad
UT7-ISP-cool-PKN-GLOP.qidf
UT7-ISP-cool-PKN-GLOP.quad
UT7-ISP-cool-PKN.qidf
UT7-ISP-cool-PKN.quad
UT7-ISP-neutral-PKN-GLOP.qidf
UT7-ISP-neutral-PKN-GLOP.quad
UT7-ISP-neutral-PKN.qidf
UT7-ISP-neutral-PKN.quad

The curves will show up in QTR with these names. There aren't any curves
with the names you mentioned earlier.

EEnMatte = Epson Enhanced Matte
EPSG = Epson Premium Semigloss
ISP = Ilford Smooth Pearl

You can right click the curve name in QTRGui to show a curve graph. This
lets you see which inks are part of the curve. You could compare the two to
see if they're the same or not.
