Confusion

Confusion

2007-08-16 by mtiktinsky

I could certainly use some guidance. I switched from a PC to a Mac
this year and that could be part of my problem having used pc's for 24
years.

I have a new Mac Intel based.
I have an Epson 4000 printer.
I have a Pulse spectrophotometer DTP 20 UV
I have Photoshop CS3.

I have Piezography neutral K7 Inks.

Question 1: I downloaded Carl Schofields instructions for creating a
profile. I have created a new .TXT file and run the Install script,
but it does nothing to that new file that I have created. I have
searched and searched. I put the .TXT file in the same subdirectory
as the install script program and while it installs all of the other
printers and all the .QUAD files are in that subdirectory, nothing
happens to the new .TXT file. Please advise what I am doing wrong.
Thanks.

Question 2: On the calibration, should I print out the calibration
chart for each paper even though I have 7 gray tone inks or is this
necessary? Ink Jet Mall says they provide the profiles which I have
used, but would like to adjust because I am not happy with some of the
ink/paper combinations. Plus, I am trying a paper which they have not
profiled (Epson Velvet Fine Art) and they said to use the Sommerset
profile. Well, I don't like the results and want to create a custom
profile, but Ink jet mall says not necessary. So, do I print out the
calibration with the K7 inks and measure the relative to 100% black on
each of the 7 inks?

Thanks in advance.

Mike,

Capital letters don't work here. Use .txt and .quad not .TXT and .QUAD

They don't provide .qidf files so you've got to start from scratch as
you are doing.
I'd recommend using custom ICC profiles rather than redoing the QTR (.quad)
profiles. This is a lot easier and you get better screen-to-print matching and
softproofing as well.
