QTR uses cyan although turned off

QTR uses cyan although turned off

2007-09-03 by rip_id2857

Hi,
I'm printing with only black and photo black turned on , on my Epson
R800. Despite this it looks that my printer is still using CYAN,
because looking at the printer monitor it suddenly gave me the message
that the CYAN cartridge is almost empty !
So, it looks to my that CYAN is being used although not turned on in QTR.
Can anyone explain this to me?

Thanks,
Herman

That message is from the Epson printer utility, not QTR. The ink status has nothing to do with the application you are using to print. It will continue to run cleaning cycles, etc., so you can run low/out of an ink that you do not use at all for you b&w printing.

I was printing a series of 10 prints and in between each print I did a
check on the print monitor to see if my "photo black ink" was running
out (cartridge was almost empty)....although I haven't heard the
printer performing a "cleaning cycle", I suddenly noticed on the
monitor that the cyan ink amount had become critical (warning).
...or is it so that you don't hear those cleaning cycles?

Herman

You can look at your QTR curves and see if CYAN is present. However, your
CYAN cartridge will get used whenever the printer goes through a cleaning
cycle, even though the ink is not being used to print. This could cause the
almost empty display.
