Hello, With version 2.5.2.0 of QTR and an Epson R220 printer, the Printing Model section gives me a choice of either QuadR220-K6 or QuadR220-GQ. What would be the differences between the two printing model? TIA, Andre

They are for different ink sets. Use the one that matches the inkset you have installed. - Stephen stephen.sbillard.org

Thanks for the reply Stephen. But which is which? To which inkset does QuadR220-K6 relates to and same for QuadR220-GQ. Hello Andre, the K6 refers to the Piezography K6/7 inkset and the GQ is the Mediastreet Quad Black inkset. You can also learn to profile any inkset you want although the task is a bit daunting at first. The Windoze user has one set of instructions and the Mac user another, neither are easy to follow in the beginning but with time it can be done. The RIP is a fantastic piece of software giving you infinite control over the ink. One major problem with the R220 is that it is a hobbyist's printer (albeit an excellant one) but rarely used by professionals who normally want a larger print size so there are relatively few profiles ready made as there are for the larger printers. One bit of advice is to go through all of the file folders one at a time. There are many "readme" documents that can fill in many of the blanks left by the various tutorials and instruction sheets. From your name I'm assuming English is a second or third language and that might also make QTR a bit more difficult to access. QTR is however a very popular program and you might also find help in French. Good luck! Robert

GQ is MediaStreet Generations QuadBlack ink K6 is Piezography Neutral K6 Ink However, I don not see that the R220 is supported for K6. Nor do either of these printing models seem to be in my installation of QTR. I suggest you contact Roy Harrington on this as he is the author of QuadToneRIP. http://www.quadtonerip.com/html/QTRoverview.html - Stephen stephen.sbillard.org

R220 is supported - for the K-6 inkset - the print model is referred to as the R200 family of printers - the curve set from Inkjet mall which downloads in the latest version of QTR works very well for most situations - includes a nice selection of papers to choose from - and with some experimentation and slight "tweaking" may be used for similar papers- Berel Lutsky Associate Professor of Art University of Wisconsin - Manitowoc blutsky@... 920-683-4735 Fax: 920-683-4776 [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Berel, Thanks for the group mail. Can you help me get started with B&W on an Epson 3000 using MIS Quad ink. I have not utilized forums before. Am starting a bit late in life but enjoy PhotoShop immensely, and have spent over 50 years in black and white. I've many Q that are start-out types (i.e., why aren't I able to see solid tones at certain steps on a step wedge corresponding to, say, 50% on the grey in the yellow cartridge). Any direction you can offer will be appreciated. Ken
