Curves - How to Preview ?

Curves - How to Preview ?

2007-11-19 by taiyolipscomb

Just began using Quadtone RIP for EP 2200 and really like the prints. However, i don't
understand how to preveiw the results of the curves ... it seems like shooting/printing in the
dark as i'll only know the results after i print it and, if i like the results and return to the
curves set-up, its all back to the default setting. Yes, i know i can save the setting before
printing but i've no way of knowing if i want to save them before i see the results and, by
then, its too late.

Is there a way to preview your curve setting's effects on the image before printing?

Thank you,

-taiyo

I am having the same problem using the Epson 2200. I set the curves with the Epson
Enhanced Matte profile (as Hanamuehle Photorag doesn't show up there!). I use the split-
tone option with warm and sepia and I like the results but I don't see anyway to preview it.
In "print with preview" I am setting it as "Same as Source" which is "Dot gain 20%"- or
should I set it for QTR Matte? Would that make a difference? Is there also anyway to get a
photorag profile to show up??

Thanks,

The standard ICC softproofing does not have any notion of blending
sliders. So there's
basically no way to "preview" the blending sliders. (also these are
part of the driver not
something visible to Photoshop).

So you need to make several small test prints to see the tones and
pick what you like.
In general I spend some time deciding the slider values I like, then
save them in a Preset
so I can use them over and over again.

Thank you Roy,

I suspected it was a matter of testing and saving Presets but hoping for a simpler system;
still, i'm happy to have such a RIP and thank you for your efforts and support.
