Subject: Re: [QuadtoneRIP] Printer Driver Issues _ just QTR
Hi Eric,
I've read your descriptions and I'm trying to see where things are going
wrong.
When you say "locked" out do you mean hangs and waits or it gives an error?
Typically when you hit print, you get a Windows icon that indicates
processing and in my case that is a metronome. There is no error message and
neither is a metronome. It just does nothing. I can go to curve creation,
load images, resize, etc so the program is still active but just can't get
to the printers.
Is there a message? There's a QTRLog.txt file in \Docs and
Settings\yourname\App...Date\QuadToneRIP
Look at this file for errors. (cut and paste the text here).
I'll look when I get to the studio. I am leaving soon to do this.
Can you go back and forth between Lightroom, Word and CS3 without trouble?
Yes
How about Lightroom, Word and QTR?
I'll need to try that configuration. I'll guess not as Adobe did that big
upgrade to printers and it seems system wide ( Adobe wide, but it may just
be CS3 suite) I haven't tried Illustrator, In Design, Acrobat, etc as there
are just so many hours and I need to test the inks and keep production going
to the 4800.
Does this happen only if you reference the same printer in both app's or
does it fail with separate printers, too?
I'll need to run a test as I don't recall right now.
In CS3 you can do some Page Setup options that are tied to a specific
printer even while not actually printing. I wonder if that tie could be a
problem.
I have not noticed a problem switching from within CS3 only, just when
mixing in QTR.
When you get to the point where you reboot -- is it just QTR that won't
print?
YES
Can you go into
all the other progs and print?
YES
Even quiting all the programs isn't good enough?
NO, QTR still does not gain access to spooling. Reboot only fix.
At this point you might look at "Printer & Faxes", select the printer and
"See what's printing" -- see if there's any status or indication of error.
No error, they all print from other apps, even ones that I have used yet. I
see nothing in the job folder for the printers when QTR fails to send data.
No metronome.
Unfortunately I don't have a CS3 on my windows box so I can't try it out.
Roy
