Comparison of Ultrachrome, UT and UT2

Comparison of Ultrachrome, UT and UT2

2005-07-21 by donbga

Hi folks,

I currently own an Epson 2200 and 1280. I wonder if anyone can say
which printer/ink combination gives the best results with QTR.

I know this question has probably been asked but searching the archives
hasn't yielded much information for me.

Thanks in advance,

Don Bryant

Don,

I can only speak for the 1280 but I use the MIS UT2 inks and am pleased
with the output on Epson Glossy Photo Paper. I used H'muhle Photo Matte
before but am now more satisfied with the Glossy because of the the
more intense blacks. The blacks on the matte now appear dusty or haze-
like in comparison. I would like to have a 2200 also but have not been
successful on eBay yet.

With QTR I've used my densitometer to create several paper/ink curves
which has really opened my eyes to how different the canned profiles
were than those catered to my setup. Hope this helps with some info for
you to make your decision.

Your friend in Photography,

Johnny

Re: [QuadtoneRIP] Comparison of Ultrachrome, UT and UT2

I have a 1280 with UT2 and 2200 with ultrachrome ink.
I prefer the 1280/UT2...it's a little bit warmer (I
tend to print for warm tones). Having said that, there
really isn't much to choose between the two combos I
have, and it really is only apparent when you hold
prints side by side.
