PS CS3 10.0.1 Update

PS CS3 10.0.1 Update

2008-01-14 by photog0946

GREETINGS GROUP,

Having recently upgraded to CS3, I've been struggling with the
possibility of installing the 10.0.1 update. My conundrum is as
follows. I'm running two 7600 printers from a Mac, one MK and one PK.
I also use the QTR driver. For colour work I have to install 4
printer drivers for each of the printers(Sheet, Roll Paper Banner,
Roll Paper No Margins Banner Etc.), as well as the QTR driver.
According to the PDF issued for printing in 10.0.1 I have to delete
all of my printers and add them again. This would mean re-adding five
printers on the MK Machine and four on the PK. Not an insurmountable
task, but certainly NOT one I look forward to. I use these printers
every day in my business and any problems could mean a loss of
productivity, to say the least. I realize there are some advantages
to be had with the update, but I'm wondering if the possible downside
is worth the effort. So far I have encountered NO problems while
printing from CS3, and my first inclination is to wait until some
issue arises that indicates an update is necessary.

Now, here's the question. Has anyone come up against the same wall I
am facing? If so, have you installed the update and attempted to
print from Photoshop without deleting and re-adding the applicable
printer drivers? Any information you might have gained in the process
would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

Thank you all in advance.

Gary,

I usa a PC not a MAC, but I upgraded awhile ago, and didn't see
anything about having to delete and re-add drivers, so of course, I
didn't. I have had no problems printing with the upgrade and, in
fact, one of the things I didn't like about printing pre-upgrade, has
been fixed.

Sheila

THANK YOU SHEILA,

I appreciate your response. When I download an update for any
application I always look for as much info as possible relating to the
update. In this case there was a PDF concerning printing with 10.0.1.
Most of the info consisted of procedures I've been using for the past
few years, so nothing new. However, the intro section on printing
mentioned that the printer(s) must be deleted and then re-added, both
for PC and Mac. As I stated, this is why I wanted some feedback from
the group. If you haven't encountered any printing problems without
following the prescribed procedure, that is indeed good to hear. Just
so that you know this is NOT a figment of my imagination, I have
enclosed the section I mentioned, copied directly from the PDF I
downloaded from the Adobe site. Now of course I am in no way
suggesting that you follow this method Sheila. If it ain't
broke.......... Again, thank you very much for the positive response.
The excerpt from the Adobe PDF follows:

"To prepare your computer for printing with the Photoshop 10.0.1
update, please follow these simple steps:
1. Install the Photoshop update.
2. Delete your printer.
3. Re-add your printer via the OS Print Control Panel (Win) or Printer
   Setup (Mac).3.
4. Install profiles for both the printer and paper you're going to
   use.
5. Delete your Photoshop Preferences. To do this, launch the
application while holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift 5. (Windows) or
Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS), then click Yes to the message,
"Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"

THANKS SHEILA!!!

PS!!!
This is a PS to my first reply. Something I meant to include but
forgot. You mentioned that you had "upgraded" some time ago Sheila,
but what I am talking about is the latest "update". This is 10.0.1
and is the reason for my concern. Could you please confirm that you
are indeed working with 10.0.1.

THANKS AGAIN SHEILA!!!

Hi Gary,

Yes, it is the 10.0.1 upgrade. I usually do check things out before
installing and I think I remember seeing something about the
preferences, but all I did was make sure I had good backups (including
the preferences file), and everything went fine, and still is.

Good luck!

Sheila

The latest 10.0.1 update has been available for a long while now. You've come late to the
party.
