QTR Version 2.6 Fails to Print

QTR Version 2.6 Fails to Print

2008-03-24 by p_bien

I downloaded version 2.6 and have tried to calibrate and print
and the printer icon comes into my toolbar for a few seconds, then
disappears. No print. I re-installed and tried to print a image I
just printed last night and same thing, all settings as before.
Printer icon comes up for a second, then disappears. No print. I
also tried to update the Epson enhanced Matt txt file with my values of
the step tablet, saved it then ran it through the Drop-Quad-Profile.app
and it comes up with a simple one line error message about Line 17.
Anyone having this problem?

Hello Paul,
I am having a similar problem with 2.6, no printing.

Am using a Mac OS10.4.11 and an R1800 printing with 3MK.
I hope I got the 2.6 installation right:
The "install R1800-3MK" command loaded the .quad files into the new location on my
system drive: library/printers/qtr/quadtone/quadR1800-3MK, I think this takes the place
of the old "curve drop box" folder?
I then reset the printer setup utility and loaded the printer back in, the utility says it is
using version 2.6. Good so far.
On starting photoshop and printing a .psd file, the qtr print utility
behaved normally and brought up the profile choices that were loaded into the new system
file.
On printing the printer dialog for quadR1800-3MK comes up empty showing no print job
and that is it.

On the bright side for 2.6 the new QTR Curve View app. is wonderful!

I know this doesn't help you but hopefully will help for the group to assist.

Hi Harlan,

It all sounds good until "I then reset the printer setup utility and
loaded the printer back in".
What did you do here? The Install script should set everything up as needed.
I'd suggest Deleting the printer and re-running the InstallR1800-3MK script.
Try things then. If you are still not getting print output run
DiagnosticScript and email
me the text output.

Paul, if you have the Diag output email me that too so I can see it.

Re: QTR Version 2.6 Fails to Print

Roy
I reinstalled version 2.5 and tried to print on my Mac (10.4) and
Epson R1800 3MK system and it works like magic, same as before. I've
tried everything I could think of to get v 2.6 to print but have come
up empty. I assume there are no improvements that I would notice on
the 1800 3MK system from v 2.5 to 2.6, is that true? If so I'll just
keep using 2.5 and try my curve generation process from there. Dont
know if you learned anything from the diagnostic file I sent you.
Regards
Paul

Re: QTR Version 2.6 Fails to Print

I don't know that this is specified in the update instructions from Roy, but I first used the
uninstall utility to remove 2.5.

I moved all the profiles I had made into a separate folder, saved on the desktop for
convenience.
Then ran the uninstall utility for 2.5 (I am on Leopard)
Then installed 2.6
Then removed all the stock curves that I know I will not be using, and added my curves to
the folder for my printer. (2200)
Then ran the install 2200 utility in the folder for the printer.

Opened Photoshop and printed a test.

Worked like a charm.

There is a problem with 2.6 on Tiger. Several people have seen it and if you
run a DiagnosticScript you'll see a crash with status 10.
Anyway I'm pretty sure I've found the cause and fixed it. But I'm on
the road and
I may not be able to make a new release till later this week. For anyone in a
bind I can email the fixed file and where to install it.

Getting from .qidf to .quad

2008-03-30 by Ken Alexander

I'm using Curve Creator to create a curve for a new
paper using the 3MK inset on my R1800.

I've entered the data for my three inks and want to
save the curve and use it to print the test chart to
linearize the profile.

There's no Create Curve button on the interface. I
assume it's been renamed to Show Curve. Clicking it,
I'm asked whether I want to save my work, so I click
Yes. The problem comes when I go to use the new curve
to print the 21-step test file: there's no .quad file
in the appropriate QuadTone folder.

How does one create the .quad file?

Thanks in advance!

Ken Alexander

Saving the work should have created the .quad file. When clicked on Show
Curve after saving did you see a curve? If so, the .quad file is somewhere
since the curve data is loaded from it.

Hi Stephen,

I found it. Thank you!

QTR did display the curve when I clicked Show Curve,
but it saved the quad file in the QuadR1800 folder
instead of QuadR1800-3MK, which seems odd because QTR
already knows I'm working with the QuadR1800-3MK
Printing Model.

Oh well, at least it works. Next time I'll know to do
a search for the file.

Thanks again!

Ken

My apologies! I just discovered that the proper
Printing Model has to be set in the Curve Creator as
well. I'd set it incorrectly...operator malfunction!

If you loaded a curve from the QuadR1800 as a basis, that is the printer
model you are working with. You need to do a save as to change that.
