Epson Stylus color 740 B&W with QTR: it is possible?

Epson Stylus color 740 B&W with QTR: it is possible?

2008-05-30 by fabozzism

Hello there,

I would like to convert this old printer to B&W, but seems it is not
supported by QTR. :-(

I know it is old and there are wonderful and affordable printers now
on the market, but it is working perfectly, practically unused and,
most of all, I need to print my B&W photo very rarely for my portfolio
(unfortunately I'm not a pro).

In your experience, do you think it would be possible to flag with the
Epson Stylus Color 860 and use it, or there is some other way to use
the 740?

I would test it myself directly, but before buy inks and pay to get
the software, it is wise to ask...

Thanks for your answers.

Cheers,

Stefano

There's no support for the 740 -- it's way too old. It would be much more
economical to get a newer printer. What do you use for color?

Hi Roy,

I shoot B&W only, from digital files (color) converted to B&W with
Photoshop CS3. Don't like color, it "catch the eye" too much. I like
B&W because the message you want the observer gets from you is more
simple and direct (and sometimes more clear).

Just my opinion.

Thanks for your answer anyway.

Cheers,

OK, I like B&W too. I just though you might also do something
else since you "need to print my B&W photo very rarely".

Don't know if this could interest any of you, anyway I discover after
some tests that Epson Stylus 740 is supported by QTR: the 1160 model
support is perfectly compatible.

Now I calibrated the monitor and the scanner. I understood preliminary
how QTR works to create a profile, next step is getting these carbon
inks...unfortunately this seems to be a challenge here in Italy. There
were two distributors, but recently one of them decided to stop
selling carbon inks. Still waiting the answer of the second one.

Let you know my B&W progress asap.

Cheers,

Stefano
