Using QTR to control altered UT7 inkset on Epson 1280

Using QTR to control altered UT7 inkset on Epson 1280

2005-08-04 by brigsby707

Hello all,

I have been using an epson 1280 with Piezotone inks and have been considering switching
inks by picking up a set of MIS refillable cartridges as well as the UT7 inkset, minus the sepia
ink. I'm curious if anyone has heard of anyone else doing this and if there would any
potential problems in attempting this. Any input welcome.

Eric

Eric,

For the 1280 I'd go with the UT2 inks that are designed for it
rather than the UT7 inks.

Hi Roy,

I recently posted some questions regarding the UT7 set on the
B&W print list, and Paul Roark advised me to do the same, and
use another light grey in place of the Sepia ink in the UT2 set in
order to achieve what I was trying to do. I assume that all I will
need to do is modify the curves to use the light ink at the end of
the gradient. If you have any advice for me, please let me know.
Otherwise thank you for the recommendation.

Best regards,

Eric

Hi Eric,

Yes, it's quite simple to add the light ink. If it's pretty warm
just add it to the warm curves. You'll have to try it on the cool
curves to see if it's acceptable. When you get into it just start with
existing curves and modify a little at a time. Let us all know how
you like the results.

Hi Roy,

According to Paul, the gray is quite neutral and is also so light that
the tone of the paper generally overrides the ink tone anyway. So,
in compromising the tone for the smoothness in the gradient, very
little is lost overall. I guess I'll have to see for myself. And
yes, I'll definitely let you know how it turns out.

Thanks,

Eric
