QTR Stops Printing

2008-09-23 by hippolyte_bayard

Hello,

I have been testing for a cyanotype curve on OHP for the Epson 4880. I
printed my tests on 8.5x11" and got really good results. I want to
print the final results on 13x19" OHP, but every time I initiate a
print sequence, it stops two inches into the print. IThe printer
doesn't send an error message. I simply have to halt the printing, or
wait five minutes for the printer to spit out the film. I was able,
however, to print the 8.5x11" test file on the 13x19" sheet, but it
will not permit a full sized image. I'm very frustrated at this point.

I am using the latest QTR and running it on Leopard. I have have
deinstalled it once now, and threw away all related profile info.
PLEASE tell me what is going on. I will be very greatfull.

Chris

Chris,

I am very interested in your process as I am also using QTR for
cyanotype curves on OHP. Though I am printing on an Epson 4000. I have
not tried printing on 13x19 OHP. However, I am printing 72" long
panoramas on 17" roll OHP. The first time I did this QTR would only
print a very small portion of the image. I discovered (with the help
of this post http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/QuadtoneRIP/message/5549)
that "document size must be smaller than your page setup size by the
amount" of the printers default minimum margins. I am not sure this is
your problem but once I set my custom document size to include the
printer margins and scaled my image to fit inside those dimensions, it
worked.

I am also interested in your cyanotype work and the curves you have
created. If you are inclined give me some details.

Best,

Scott Huette

It was not a QTR issue. I called Epson and a wonderfully helpful customer service person
helped me reset the printer. The curve looks great. If anyone is doing cyanotype, I will be
happy to email the curve and txt. If you also happen to have a 4880 alt process curve, I
would appreciate that information. There isn't a lot out there yet.

Scott,

You're web image looks great. I actually came across it earlier when looking for a solution to
my problem. I'll be happy to share the curve and txt with you. As I mentioned in my earlier
post, the curve is very close. The step wedge looks excellent, and the numbers match up
fairly well with the densities.

Dear Hippolyte,

I am printing my negs on a 2880. I have spent the past 2 weeks patiently printing step tablets with QTR but am struggling to find a solution to the perfect cyanotype curve. I am not getting enough detail in the highlights or they are staining. I would be very grateful if you could share your curve with me so that I have a new starting point. Many thanks in advance for your help and for sharing your knowledge.
Cheers.
Felicitas
