R1800 Newbie

R1800 Newbie

2005-08-20 by adydula

Hello,

I tried the Beta code and could not get it to print with my R1800. I
keep getting a I/O 32 error message. I tried both firewire and usb
connections to the printer.

I read that this is a problem and you have to use the r800 selection
instead. I tried this and it printed but very light.

So I guess as a newbie I have a ton of questions. I did read lots of
the guide stuff but still have some questions to get in the right
direction.

Several people are using the RIP and getting marvelous BW prints with
their R1800.

So...I certainltly would like to do so as well.

Would someone please tell me what papers are supportted and what curves?
I hear only matte paper works, but i can select glossy etc..so I am a
bit confused as to what to select etc...

Is there anyway to get the R1800 printer to print without selecting
the r800 or should i worry about this at all?

Many thanks!!
Alex

Alex,
I can successfully print with QTR using the R1800 setting with the
beta version. It does a fairly good job in spite of having only one
black ink. The only paper supported currently is EEM. I keep thinking
I'll try to develop the curves for some others, particularly VFA, but
can't seem to get around to it. Maybe some day.

I have seen reports that some firewall software, as illogical as it
sounds, will cause the I/O 32 error, especially the newest
release of the Kerio firewall. You might look into this.

Regards,
Dick

Dick,

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I tried Heavyweight Matte and
the results were not that good..too dark, but if the curves are for
EEM I understand..I font have any at the momnet, but have tons of
other papers...lots of glossy and fine art stuff. Sure wish there
werer curves for thes papers..ie Moab Entrada and VFA etc...
I use ZoneAlarm Pro and have tried t oturn it off, still same IO32
error...I will try reloading the code and see if this works..

thanks again
Alex
