QTR on Epson 4880 using Ethernet Interface

Is it possible to install QTR on a Mac G5 OSX 10.4.11 and use the Ethernet interface on my Epson 4880 or is USB the only way to go? I already have the printer set up via Ethernet and distance may prohibit use of standard USB cabling. I could use an active USB cable if absolutely necessary, but I hope it won't come to changing my current configuration. Thanks, Ben
