QuadR1800-K7 printer grayed out

QuadR1800-K7 printer grayed out

2008-12-23 by kimreyx4@sbcglobal.net

I had my Quadtone RIP / Piezography K7 setup working a while back, but have since
upgraded my Mac to Leopard (now at 10.5.5), and Quadtone RIP quit working. So I upgraded
that to v. 2.6.2, and did the new printer install with the included script. The printer shows
up in the System Preferences/Print & Fax window. However, using Photoshop CS3, when I try
to select the printer in the print dialogue, I can't as it's grayed out, visible but unavailable.
This holds true with all my apps. It seems to have installed as a CUPS printer rather than
using the Epson driver...? Any ideas?

In Print & Fax check to see it the printer is offline. In some cases the
printer is not updated to Leopard. Delete the printer and re-run the install
script for the printer (InstallR1800-K7) - this will start over.

Thanks, Roy, but I've done multiple uninstall/reinstall runs, deleting ppd files, trashing
prefs, all the good stuff.

It's bizarre, because the printer shows up normally in the Print & Fax window, yet doesn't
show up in the print dialogues of the various programs, or just shows up grayed out in
Photoshop. If I create a new printer without using the install script, just via the Print & Fax
window, selecting the QuadToneRIP driver, I can get it to show up in the print dialogue,
but no curves show up in the QuadToneRIP settings panel.

Is anyone currently using this configuration: Mac OS 10.5.6, Epson R1800 (driver -
QuadToneRIP 2.6 Epson 1800), Piezography K7 ink set, Photoshop CS3?

Alan

Hi Alan,

That is strange - I´ve never seen the printers grayed out. Since you
can see the
printer when created in Print&Fax, create it that way and then run the
InstallR1800-K7
install script. It´ll use the existing printer - make sure its called
QuadR1800-K7 and
uses the QuadToneRIP 2.6 R1800 driver.

Many Thanks, Roy

That did the trick. Wonder what was up with that? I did manage to get the software to
work right out of the gate earlier today on my laptop, so something must be wacky with
the OS on my G5 tower (I'd also tried to run the printer via the CUPS IP interface, but was
getting communication errors). But all is well for now.

Happy New Year

Alan
