2.5.1. To 2.6.2 Upgrade on the Mac

I¹m relatively new to the Mac, and I¹m about to upgrade from my initial install (2.5.1) to the latest release (2.5.2). Do I simply run the install script? Is there anything else I need to do either before or after? How can I tell the installed version number, so that I can tell the upgrade was successful.
