Dual PiezoTone K4 system?

Dual PiezoTone K4 system?

2009-01-26 by Jon Cone

Is anyone interested in a dual ink PiezoTone system for a current
printer system (2400, 3800, 4800, 4880, 7800, 7880, 9800, 9880)?
(2880 is almost a go...)

This would use two K4 curves (customized for your printer) using the
curve blending of QTR and either

WarmNeutral / SeleniumTone

or

CarbonSepia / SeleniumTone

Its also possible to have Neutral.

I have been working on a system for the last few weeks and wondering
if it has any commercial interest to anyone else other than me.

If you're interested, please contact me...

Jon

Hello Jon, I already use CarbonSepia and K7 Neutral for QTR dual ink systems in my 9600 printers. What i really wish you supplied would be a seven-ink set with the half-sepia/ half neutral tone so i can print as a seven-ink solution. This color more resembles my palladium/platinum prints and is not so strongly sepia.

If you could give me a call at 305-742-3291 I'd like to learn which bottled inks I'd need to try Studioprint as a 50-50 sepia/neutral inkset in my 9600.

If you really want a blend of Neutral and Sepia, you can take the K7
inks and literally blend them in a bottle. 50% of each shade pair.

So 50% shade 2 Neutral and 50% shade 2 Sepia mixed together...
then the same for each other shade...

Is that what you mean?

All K7 inks can be blended that way and use the same curve because the
L value is similar.

THis way you have a seven shaded system to your preference. You just
need to use the refillable carts... and my curves for QTR. OR you
can use StudioPrint to linearize. But I do a smoother job of it than SP.

All this make sense?

Re: Dual PiezoTone K4 system?

2009-01-27 by Tyler Boley

I'll second that, it's very easy. I've been playing with mixing from
all the sets for a month or so now, just in a little 1900, and it's
pretty cool. No QTR or recalibration hassles, it all just works. 50/50
sepia/neutral is indeed very pretty.
Nearly everything looks nice, because the K7 QTR curves are so smooth
and gentle, with a lot of overlap, it's pretty hard to do anything
garish...

Hmmm, I am using Piezo Sepia and K7 neutra in my 9600l... I didn't know you had sepia K7's too. I do not yet own Studioprint but have been using QTR, which is a pain to linearize each day (two curves, a neutral and a Sepia). It is my hope that Studioprint will simplify linearization. Of course, QTR would be easier to linearize with a mixed inkset. I'd happily use your curves but each day seems to bring a need for a new linearization to achieve repeatable results. Humidity changes seem to be an issue.

If you ever visit down here, let me know and I'll buy you dinner. You've got some folks down here using your system.

Re: Dual PiezoTone K4 system?

2009-01-27 by Jon Cone

Yes a Sepia K7 and there is a Selenium K7 also.

StudioPrint however, is rather easy to linearize. You simply select
the inks you wish to linearize from black to light and assign them
into an black from "black" to "light black 1" through "light black 6"
(as many as seven). You can also assign more than one ink to a shade
of light black is you wish. Then you print a target and measure. I
prefer to print 30 & measure, print 30 again and measure, then 60 and
measure, and finally 60 and measure and clip to the dMax. It takes
about 10 minutes. It's not as smooth as the K7 profiler but its very
good and easy.

I would be interested to know how many folks are down there! I may be
coming to Miami in February.

regards,

Jon
