Profile-loading problem on a 3800

Profile-loading problem on a 3800

2009-02-11 by benaltman123

Hi Everyone,

I've been using QTR for digital negatives for a while, on 2200. R1800, and 9800. I have
Version 2.4.x on a G4 with OS 10.4 and 2.6.2 on a G5 with 10.5. I write my own profiles
which are a very simple syntax: a separate curve for each ink, generated from a
spreadsheet.

I include a sample file below, with the curves simplified for the sake of space.

Recently I offered to write a profile for a friend who has a 3800. (I don't have one here). He
can't get the profile to load correctly; symptoms no graph generated on loading and
doesn't print.

He is running 10.3.9 on a G4 and 10.5 on an Imac, Intel, I think.

I can e-mail the profile to myself and, with the appropriate change to the printer name,
load it on my 9800 and print. I can e-mail him a similar profile for his 2200 and that
works fine. He can download other people's profiles and they work.

What am I missing about the 3800?

Thanks for any help!

Ben

OK, more info: I got my friend to open the .quad file in TextEdit. It shows all the inks
correctly, but each of the 256 values for each ink is zero.

Hi Ben,

Both you and your friend ought to upgrade to 2.6.2 on all the machines.
The ink file you have works fine there.

Re: Profile-loading problem on a 3800

Update on this problem:

We were able to do a workaround by pasting values from my 9800 .quad file into his 3800
.quad file - the one that showed all the inks but with all zero values. Still don't know why
it doesn't work with the install or drop-quad routines.

The only thing I can think of is that he's still using the old version
of install or drop-quad.
If he copied those programs to his own private folder he may be still
using the old stuff.
Make sure he gets a new version of install/drop-quad from the new
download. Look under:
/Applications/QuadToneRIP/Profiles or /Applications/QuadToneRIP/CurveDesign
