Calibration Ink Limit doesn't?

Calibration Ink Limit doesn't?

2009-04-17 by t_j_l_s

I am trying to make a profile for Harman Gloss FB AL on my Epson 4800.
None of the existing profiles for this printer have ink limit set above 75 so I decided to try to save some time and set the "calibration ink limit" slider to 80.

But now I am unsure what effect exactly this had on the printing of the ink limit calibration page. I guess I expected QTR to clip the maximum amount of ink at 80% but looking at the printed sheet I'm not sure that's what it did -- did it clip, or did it scale all the densities? If the latter, I guess I need to restart all my calculations.

Generally the calibration tutorial is excellent but it doesn't really explain precisely how or when to set the calibration ink limit slider, just to initially set it to 100%.

Which way does this work, and how should I proceed? On the test sheet printed with the slider set to 80%, sure enough maximum density appears to be around 70 or 75% in the black ink.
