Range of LINEARIZE= values?

Range of LINEARIZE= values?

2009-05-18 by t_j_l_s

I found the option to measure the QTR 21-step greyscale in SpyderPrint. Now the only issue seems to be the range of the output values. SpyderPrint seems to be emitting values ranging from 0 to about 2 into the LINEARIZE= line it generates. Other QTR profiles I have seem to have values ranging from about 5 to about 100.

Does this matter? Is it a bug in SpyderPrint? I'm using the 3.5 beta -- should I try the released 3.0 version?

LINEARIZE: Density or Lab?

It looks like SpyderPrint is emitting density values, while some of the existing 4800-7800-9600 profiles have Lab values in the LINEARIZE= line. I notice the profiles for the similar Epson 4000 printer seem to have densities -- the values range from 0 to about 2.3.

Which is correct? Does QTR automatically accept either? Or is one set of profiles or the other just wrong?

QTR handles either Lab or Density automatically.
The values in the Linearize line should go from white to black:
in lab that's big to small values
in density its small to big values.

Roy I have an X-rite Pulse spectrophotometer aka DTP20. It measures in LAB. To check linearity should I use the RGB step wedge print out in QTR or should I convert this to LAB make it linear and then print it out in QTR?

Having done this linearized and made adjustments, I presume I print my R=G=B images in RGB mode in QTR. Am I understanding this properly?

Thanks,

Colin
