True B&W prints

2009-07-09 by mmcouvie

I recently downloaded QTR and am using the curves for Matte and Ilford paper and trying to find out how to get True B&W prints without any tones. Can someone help with the right mix of curves to do this?

Thanks.

What printer and inkset are you using? What specific QTR curves are you using?

I am using an Epson 4000 with Ultra Chrome ink.
For Ilford I have tried the curves:

UC-IsSmooth Pearl - Carbon
UC-IsSmooth Pearl -Neutral
UC-IsSmooth Pearl - Sepia

UC-EEnMatte -Cool
UC-EEnMatte - CoolSe
UC-EEnMatte - Sepia
UC-EEnMatte - warm

Thanks

The factory black/gray inks in the 4000 are not neutral but are a pukey green/yellow tone. So you gotta add color inks to the mix.

How do I add color inks to the mix?

I'm finding this a bit confusing. If you are using the curves, then the colours are already being added - that's what the curves do.

What you haven't said is what results you are getting. What is actually wrong with the prints you are producing using these curves?

Sorry for my colloquialism.

Adding 'color inks to the mix' means using QTR and it's curves.
