Ethernet works with QTR 2.6 - Epson - Mac Intel OS 1.5

You can use ethernet with Quad Tone Rip 2.6 and a Large format Epson printer with Mac os 10.5.

I just wanted to start with that because there is some confusion out there I am pretty sure ethernet will work with many setups and QTR. Roy has been pretty good about referring people to the last page of the Tutorial which tells you how to do it. In the end it is one of those things that when you understand it, it is very simple to do.

But I have put 20 hours into it the last few days. So I thought I might give an explanation for those with a limited understand of the underlying technology and terminology - like myself.

To use Ethernet you must deinstall the program and start from the beginning. It seems you must make a choice - use ethernet or USB, but not both.

Set up the computer and printer so they are on and connected by the ethernet cable. Install the program. Next you will install the Profiles. Find and open the Profiles Folder. Selected the folder that indicates your printer and ink set. Click and open. Click on the Install command for your printer.

On USB it will install and you are finished, but with the ethernet install on the very bottom instructions page you will be asked "for network printers, please enter an IPP address for your printer". If you know your IPP address you can write it here press `enter' and you are finished.

If you are like me you will have two points of confusion. First what is the IPP, and second where to find it.

You are setting up a network. There are two IPP addresses one for the computer and the other one for the printer. The one you need to find and type in here is for the printer. I did everything with, and looked everywhere I could imagine to make the IPP work before I figured this out.

To find the internet number for an epson printer press the small black button on the internet card. Look for it next to where the cable goes into the computer. Load a sheet of 8.5x11 paper, press the button and you will get a print out - on which you will find the IP address.

I know this sounds simple - but what would now take me five minutes - took five days. Roy suggested to use Bonjour. I found that on a new mac the computer did it all if I typed in the correct IP. I hope this helps another lost soul trying to get in the QTR garden.

Now I am on to profiles ... I am sure I will need a lot of help - please correct any mistakes I have made this is all very new to me.

PS - make sure the front panel on the computer is set up for ethernet. Go from:
Printer Set up > scroll to - interface > scroll to - Auto > select.

PSS - this sets up only the QTR ethernet connection, you will need to set up another printer ethernet connection with the epson driver in the mac preferences so you can use utilities.
