banding on Epson 4000

banding on Epson 4000

2005-08-26 by Peter A. Calvin

I have installed and tested QTR on my own Epson 4000, and gotten
excellent results. (Mac OS 10.3.9)

However, when I tried to use QTR with our school's 4000, I get
banding. I have run nozzle checks, head cleaning cycles, and head
alignment. I have also
madesure that the school's machine had the latest software and
firmware.
This machiine, though, does not produce banding when printing color
images with the
Epson drivers.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to a solution to this problem?

Thanks in advance,

Peter

I have had the same problem. I now use 2880 dpi instead of 1440 dpi,
banding has not occurred since.

Ken,

Did you have to make a gamma adjustment at 2880 dpi?

Thanks for the help,

Peter,

Yes, I am pretty sure when I originally switched from 1440 to 2880 dpi
I did make a Gamma Adjustment and perhaps also an Ink Limit
Adjustment. I don't have a record of those setting anymore since all
my QTR printing is now done at 2880 dpi. However, as an example,
recently I have made a few prints I like on Red River Polar Satin (a
luster paper) with the following setting (which give a reasonably good
match between my prints and my Artisan Monitor image):
2880 dpi, Photo Black Ink, UC-ISmoothPearl-neutral Curve,

Ink Limit Adj +5 (slider move to right toward "Darkest")
Gamma-Adjustment +11 (slider move to right toward "Darkest")

Good luck,
Ken
