What to look for in the Inkseperation.psd

I have my machine and QTR so they work quite well  ...  The prints on Hanamuhle Etching are very nice   ... but I noticed with the H. Photorag there is a florescence on the edge of the black tones.  I presume too much ink is causing the problem. And this is the paper I wanted to use to learn to make a profile.

I ran the Inkseperation.psd., and I got a nice band of tones for each ink. I am absolutely befuddled by what I am supposed to look for - ie "where it appears all the paper is covered with inks."  

I bought an old 7600 printer from a friend, and it has very smooth tones, In the light grays I can not see dots or lines.

In the first five inks of Cone k7 all the paper is covered with ink at 5%, and then step through gray tones all the way to 100%  ... Though the last 5% (95-100) is subtle.

K6 stops separation at 80%, and K7 black stops separation at 50%.

Any help on what I should look for?
Does it matter if I use the PSD or a Tiff?

Inkseperation.psd is used when you make your own QTR custom profiles. The
instructions for working with this file are included in the download
package.

Jon Cone of course, also provides QTR profiles for K7 inks for a variety of
papers.

Thanks Terry  .. i am trying to learn to make curves.

What I found was the description of what to look for unclear, That is "where it appears all the paper is covered with ink".  I see smooth tones that cover each of the squares from light to dark in the grays. I would describe them all as covered with ink.  In the mid grays to Black there is some nuance too the structure of the ink pattern and how the tones build up when you look at them with a good loupe. I am just not sure what too look for.

Is it possible I should just look at the Black ink?  At some point it reaches a max. Is that what I am looking for?

I did get my eye-one going  ... after I made the strip ... and was wondering if there is something I could look at using this tool?  Perhaps for a shoulder in a D-log curve. When I start with something I do not understand  ... it feels good to be able to measure things  ... until I can calibrate my brain to understand what I am looking for  ... thanks

I noted an answer to this in Amadou's new tutorial ...  also that he has this in the 4th level so I am probably a little ahead of myself.

Still have lots of questions  .. but I will work with this tutorial awhile.  It looks great.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
