Creating ACV from linearisation data
2009-07-21 by Keith Cooper
Hi I'm just having a look at a Canon iPF6100 and note that the PS printing plugin has an option to apply an ACV file when printing in B/W mode. Whilst you could easily generate a QTR linearising profile and convert/assign to get a 'corrected' image to print, I was wondering if there was a (simple) way of producing an ACV file that worked to linearise a print. Whilst doing this, I did remember some of the limitations of ACV files, so I suspect the answer is that it's better to use a profile... Just wondering about what could be done to make QTR of use to Canon printer users ;-) The printer has to go back to Canon in a few weeks, so if anyone has any specific questions about it, do let me know? I just printed my standard test image on the roll of HW Satin Canon left with the printer and it's very good. A quick check of the linearity with a 21x4 shows that not much correction is needed, but the Canon (at default B/W settings) produces a very slight unevenness, lightening the shadows a tad. The HW Satin does have quite a bit of brightener in it, so perhaps not my first choice for my own prints, but then again, there is a 30m roll sitting there to experiment with :-) bye for now Keith
